Notable events during the month:                  
During the late-spring bank holiday weekend 100.4mm of rain fell during the 49-hour period between 20z on the 26th and 21z on the 28th,  
  triggering widespread flooding in the town and resulting in the cancellation of the Luton International Carnival. The 28th was also the
  coldest late-May day since 1948.                    
The month's rainfall total was a new record for May, and the third highest for any month (after Nov 1940 and Oct 1987)
